Eoghan Lavin, from Swinford, knocked out Jan Balog of Czechia on Saturday
Mayo boxer Eoghan Lavin secured his fifth win of his professional career in knockout fashion as he dispatched Czechia’s Jan Balog after just 90 seconds on Saturday evening.
The Swinford native secured the win on the undercard of the Irish Welterweight Title clash between Senan Kelly and Declan Geraghty in the National Boxing Stadium.

Lavin, who started his boxing journey in Ballyhaunis Boxing Club, sent Balog to the canvas with a left hook to the body early on.
The Swinford puncher has now won by knockout twice since swapping amateur for professional, having previously secured a second-round TKO win over France’s Remi Scholar in his third-ever win.
Lavin’s opponent has had a long career in the ring, first stepping between the ropes professionally all the way back in 2010, when Lavin was only five years of age.
The Mayo fighter is seen as a solid prospect in boxing spheres and didn’t even need to listen to the oceans of advice available from his coach and former WBA lightweight champion Anthony Crolla between rounds, as his opponent didn’t even make it past the end of Round One.
According to Crolla, in an interview on the ‘Irish Boxing’ YouTube channel, he knew that his fighter had the wherewithal to take Balog out of the equation early doors.
“Listen, I expected him to get him out of there tonight,” he stated. “That's not being disrespectful, but it was how he went about it.
“Eoghan dealt with it how I would expect a top prospect to deal with it, and I see him as a top prospect.”
Even so, the Englishman was impressed with how Lavin went about his business as he watched on from ringside.
“I thought the finishing shot was a lovely shot downstairs,” said Crolla. “Jan, he was in a bit of pain, and he said that after.”
The fight was live-streamed on DAZN to fight fans around the globe as part of the ‘A Night of Champions’ card.
Lavin has plenty of well-known boxing figures in his corner. He’s one of the many top punchers included on the roster of Queensbury Promotions, run by the iconic promoter Frank Warren.
His manager, Anthony Joshua, needs no introduction to even the most casual boxing audience out there.

It remains unclear when we’re likely to see the Mayo man lace up the gloves next, but considering the fact he’s fought five times in the last twelve months since turning professional, you wouldn’t bet on it taking long before we see his name popping up once more.
