Mayo boxer Eoghan Lavin will be looking to maintain his unbeaten professional record as he steps between the ropes this weekend.

Lavin, who hails from Swinford, will be stepping into the ring as part of the ‘A Night of Champions’ event in Dublin’s National Boxing Stadium on Saturday, April 12.

Standing across the ring is an opponent 20 years his senior in Jan Balog. The Czechian has been in the professional circuit since Lavin was five years old.

It’s safe to say that his record has been mixed, with 17 wins, 61 losses, and one draw to his name.

However, Lavin, who will have former WBA lightweight champion Anthony Crolla in his corner, will have to be aware of the knockout ability of his opponent, as evidenced by his fourth-round dispatch of Tomas Gaspar in November.

Middleweight Lavin, whose amateur career started with Ballyhaunis Boxing Club, turned professional in April last year, recording a win over Vasif Mamedov at the iconic York Hall.

He also defeated Artjom Spatar on points in the SSE Arena in Belfast in his second professional bout before the highlight of his professional career to date.

Frenchman Remi Scholer was next on the hit list for Lavin. In the first round, Scholar was dropped by the Mayo native’s left glove to the chin midway through the first round, and following a second knockdown in round two, his corner threw in the towel.

It was a return to Irish shores for Lavin in his most recent win at the tail end of last year. Now, with Balog making the journey to Dublin for his first scrap in Ireland, the proud son of Mayo will be aiming to make his trip back to Czechia a miserable one.

The ‘A Night of Champions’ will take place in the National Boxing Stadium, Dublin, on Saturday, April 12.

The fight will take place on the undercard of the Irish Welterweight Title clash between Senan Kelly and Declan Geraghty, and can be watched live on DAZN here.
