Mayo Athletics sensations, Freya and Holly Renton secured more success at the weekend as Freya Renton delivered a stunning run to take gold in the U-16 Girls 1500m. The teenager set a championship record of 4.29.81 on Day three of the National Juvenile Track & Field Championships. Renton broke the previous record set by Aimee Hayde in 2018 where the Tipperary native clocked in at 4.30.91.

In remarkable fashion, Freya’s twin sister, Holly finished second as she secured silver in the 1500m event. Holly Renton finished across the line at 4.36.24 which was nearly seven seconds behind her equally talented sibling, Freya.

The Renton twins from Westport continue to excel in their field of athletics. The duo are at the heart of most races around the county while still studying in the Sacred Heart school in Westport, a very bright future awaits the Renton girls.
