THE quickly-developing Mayo soccer saga took another twist this evening when Connacht FA Chairman, John Byrne, contacted all Mayo League clubs to brief them on the latest developments. In an email to clubs, he explained that a meeting held in Westport on Tuesday night failed to resolve what he described as "recent controversies" and went on to state what the next step is.

I, as Chair of the Connacht Football Association convened a meeting of the LMC last night in Westport in an effort to resolve recent controversies that had arisen in the League. The meeting was attended by all members of the LMC, 7 in person and one remotely.

Despite over two hours of talks it very regrettably became clear that there was no resolution to be found to the current difficulties and at that stage each member voluntarily agreed to step aside from their positions to facilitate the convening of an EGM. I want to put on the record that there was no involvement from the FAI and nobody was stood down. Each member agreed to stand aside in the best interests of the Mayo League.

It now falls to the Connacht FA to assume the responsibility of running the affairs of the League until an EGM is convened and a new Committee with a fresh mandate is elected. We will make every effort to convene the EGM as soon as possible.

In the meantime scheduled fixtures will continue to be played and all day to day activity of the League and use of Milebush Umbro Park will continue as normal.

We will be writing to you in the very near future to confirm EGM arrangements.
