The Super League champions left it late but they produced a dramatic comeback to remain unbeaten

SOCCER ROUNDUP: There were important late winners in the Mayo Super league

The past week was a busy one in Mayo soccer circles as plenty of exciting games took place in all the leagues across the county.

SUPER LEAGUE

A busy set of fixtures as midweek and weekend clashes took pride of place across the county. In the clash of the top two, Castlebar Celtic overcame Westport United in injury time as Johnnie Cocozza secured the winner late on.

Glenhest Rovers left it late also, before a fantastic effort from Shane Finnerty saw them to victory over Ballina Town. Ballinrobe Town overcame a resilient Ballyhaunis side with Oisin Connolly’s penalty kick proving to be the crucial winner in a 2-1 win for the Robesiders. 

Ballyheane made the trip to face Kiltimagh Knock United, where the visitors were 2-0 up when their midfielder Sean Kilcoyne picked up a serious leg injury. As a result, the game was abandoned. On Sunday, Westport United hosted Conn Rangers, where the hosts ran out comfortable 3-0 winners.

Glenhest Rovers continued their remarkable form as Connor McCarthy secured the only goal of the game in injury time in Manulla. Ballina Town hosted Castlebar Celtic in a dramatic encounter. The hosts were winning 3-1, but The Hoops turned it around in remarkable fashion to register a 4-3 win thanks to a Dylan Edwards winner.

PREMIER LEAGUE

With midweek and weekend games taking place in this league also, teams were busy. Ballyglass registered a comfortable 8-0 win over Killala midweek while Claremorris continued their fine form over Straide & Foxford. Iorras Aointathe conquered Kilmore 2-0 in an all-Erris derby.

There was little to choose between the sides all evening, but on 77 minutes, Iorras went in front from the penalty spot with Dara Padden scoring, and Padden doubled his tally in injury time.

Ballyheane B came out on top over Crossmolina in a 3-2 thriller. Castlebar Celtic B recorded a fine 5-3 victory over Ballyglass, while Crossmolina beat Killala 8-2 in a goalfest. League leaders Westport United B lost out to Claremorris 4-1. Straide & Foxford overcame Kilmore 4-0 in a fine home win.

Iorras Aontaithe won 5-1 in Ballyheane thanks to two goals apiece from Jamie Reilly and Kyle Hefferon and a single from Dara Padden.

LEAGUE ONE

League leaders Ballina Town B record a 3-2 win over neighbours Conn Rangers as Swinford strolled to a 9-0 victory over Partry Athletic. Fahy Rovers won 5-2 away to Bangor Hibs as Simon Duffy bagged four goals in a 5-2 win. Claremorris B came out on top in a 5-4 thriller over Ballyvary Blue Bombers.

LEAGUE TWO

Crossmolina B overcame Westport United C 2-1 as unbeaten Achill Rovers continued their great run when they secured a 4-2 win at Fahy Rovers B. Conn Rangers C beat Castlebar Town in a fine 4-1 victory for the hosts as Glenhest Rovers got the better of Ballinrobe Town 2-1.
