Councillor Michael Loftus has welcomed the completion of a new safety railing at Kilcummin Pier carried out by Mayo County Council.

A new safety railing has been completed at Kilcummin Pier, Co Mayo in a move welcomed as an important improvement for local residents and visitors.

Local councillor Michael Loftus said he was pleased to see the project finally finished after delays, describing it as a positive step for safety at the popular coastal location.

The works were carried out by Mayo County Council and involved the installation of a new protective railing along part of the pier to improve safety for those using the facility.

Cllr Loftus acknowledged the efforts of those involved in bringing the project to completion, noting that much of the work took place behind the scenes.

“I’m delighted to see the new railing now completed at Kilcummin Pier,” he said. “A lot of work went on behind the scenes to make this happen, and I want to give particular credit to Séamus Giblin’s engineer in Mayo County Council, who put in a tremendous effort to get it over the line.”

He also recognised that there had been some frustration locally due to delays in the project but said the finished works would be a welcome development for the community.

“There was understandable frustration at the delays, but it’s great to see the project finished at last — a real boost for safety and for the local community. Well done to all involved,” he added.

Kilcummin Pier is widely used by locals, anglers and visitors to the area, and the new railing is expected to provide improved protection along the waterfront.
