Ballyheane have advanced in the FAI Junior Cup after they overcame Roscommon outfit Boyle Celtic.
Although Ashley Stevenson’s side scored two goals in injury time, this cup tie was plain sailing for the Ballyheane boys.
The hosts dominated throughout as they enjoyed the vast majority of possession. Scoreless at the break, Ballyheane appeared to raise the intensity levels for the second period.
Impressive winger, Ben Edeh curled in a magnificent effort which went past the vocal Kyle Sweeney in goal.
The hosts were in full control for the second half as their opponents showed little in attack. Substitute Rory Morris capitalised on an error in the Boyle defence as he calmly slotted home the insurance goal.
Three minutes later, Dylan Stevenson sealed the deal as his effort from the edge of the box smashed to the back of the net.
Elsewhere in the FAI Junior Cup, Westport United had a fruitful trip to Ballisodare United, where they secured a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Alex Halpin and Dan O’Malley.
Mayo Super League champions Castlebar Celtic - the only other Mayo team involved in the FAI Junior Cup this weekend - saw their meeting Cloonfad United postponed.
A full match report plus reaction to Ballyheane’s win over Boyle Celtic will be carried in Tuesday’s Mayo News.
