An 88th minute winner from Adam Nugent, secured the three points and pushed Westport United into second place in the Mayo Super League after they defeated Kiltimagh/Knock on Saturday evening.

The home side were missing several players, but still managed to put up a huge battle against the Westport side.

The visitors were quick off the mark. After applying a lot of pressure to Kiltimagh/Knock in the opening minutes, they were rewarded with only eight minutes played.

Jack Dawson won the ball in the Kiltimagh/Knock half and played a superb ball through to Cian Halpin, who slotted the ball into the back of the net.

The Covies continued to play the better football. However, with 13 minutes played, the home side found an equaliser. Westport were unable to clear their lines, and Ronan Malee was quick to pounce and make the game 1-1.

This scoreline did not last very long. It was less than one minute later when Westport took the lead once again. Straight from tip-off, the visitors managed to find some space down the right-wing. Mark McDonagh sent a ball into the box, which Cian Halpin got on the end of.

Westport continued to play the slightly better football, however, with 37 minutes played, the home side found another equaliser. Robert Jordan gave a perfectly weighted pass through to Conor Flynn, and Flynn made no mistake in slotting the ball into the bottom left corner.

The half-time scoreline read 2-2, making for an exciting second half.

The teams put in an excellent second half, both searching for a winner. Kiltimagh/Knock keeper, Niall Walshe, was forced to make superb saves.

With 73 minutes played left, Westport Manager, Kevin McNamara made a double substitution as Darren Browne and Adam Nugent entered the game.

This double sub paid off for the visitors. With 88 minutes played, Darren Browne applied heavy pressure to the Kiltimagh/Knock defence. Browne was able to turn over the ball and get it ball to Nugent. Nugent calmly put passed the ball into the bottom corner - a late but excellent winner for Westport United.
