In Kilmurray.

“The manager told us before we went out, that this was a cup final.” The words of man of the match, Oisín Deane. The 17-year-old Crossmolina striker got two goals, and winger, Aaron Coggins – a year older – got two more, as Crossmolina moved off the bottom of the table and piled the pressure on Kiltimagh/Knock United, who sit two points above them in the Super League.

This was an excellent game of football for the neutral, in ideal conditions in Kilmurray. The game was a home fixture for KKU – the earlier round being flipped due to pitch difficulties at the time, for Crossmolina.

Cross' were thoroughly deserving of their emphatic win. They were hungrier, fitter, and wanted it more than an often lethargic KKU side missing several key players. They played the best football, and the youngsters up front tortured a KK defence that often pushed forward, leaving space in behind.

The sides went in level at the break. That was largely thanks to an excellent save by Niall Walshe for KKU, from Crossmolina captain, Kevin Campbell.

Six minutes after the restart, Aaron Coggins sent a spectacular overhead kick to the roof of the KKU net, and the outcome was never in doubt from that point on. Two minutes later Deane got the first of his brace, and even though Rafael Costa got one back for KK, they never looked like they were going to get anything from the game only a beating.
