The Mayo News understands that one of the country’s leading SSE Airtricity League of Ireland Premier Division sides are in pursuit of Mayo Oscar Traynor Manager Joe Kelly.
It is understood Kelly would be joining the first-team coaching ranks, if the club can manage to convince him to move into full-time football.
Kelly impressed as he took Mayo to the final of the tournament – only the second time this has ever happened with the county – where they lost to Waterford. Kelly’s achievements with the side, that were unfancied at the outset of the competition, along with his coaching achievements at underage levels, have caught national attention.
While both Kelly and the club involved remain silent on the move, it is understood that the offer will be decided on by Kelly in the coming weeks, with the main consideration been his senior post with Mayo County Council. Kelly will also be reluctant to leave the Oscar Traynor set-up, but the chance to progress to such a high-profile post may be too big of a temptation to turn down.
This development comes as the Mayo News learned that a League of Ireland Premier Division club are closely monitoring a Mayo-based player who was part of the Mayo Oscar Traynor Cup team and could well make a move for the player in the upcoming transfer window.
The club has scouted the player on a number of occasions and have prepared a lengthy dossier on him. The player is a key performer in the Mayo Super League and with the Oscar Traynor squad.
