Westport recovered from their Thursday night win over Ballinrobe to make it two out of two in the Super League with a comfortable win over Kiltimagh/Knock United (KK U). The visitors had a tough battle in Ballina on Thursday evening and showed the signs of it in the first half when they stood off a young Westport side that can run all day.

Dylan O’Malley scored with his head when he jumped highest to meet Cian Halpin’s cross after KK U had conceded a needless free kick near their own goal just before half-time. Despite Westport’s dominance they hadn’t much to show for it at the break.

KK U were hungrier for a while in the second half but made little headway and then Westport went two up when Halpin ran on to a diagonal cross from Kevin Kitterick.

At that stage, it looked all over.  KK U substitute, Jack O’Connor, had other ideas, however, and when he pounced on a midfield error by Westport, he produced a wonder strike from forty metres to lob Gary Cunningham.

At 2-1 it should have been ‘game on’. KK U however, hadn’t enough in the tank and Kitterick and Halpin combined again, at the end, for an identical goal to their earlier effort, to seal Westport’s win.
