Last November signalled the end of Stephen Kenny's tenure as Republic of Ireland boss following a disappointing Euro 2024 qualifying campaign.

Nearly three months have passed and there is still no sign of a new men's manager.

England under-21 head coach Lee Carsley has reportedly been the FAI's number one target since Kenny's departure. Former Celtic manager Neil Lennon has also been linked to the role. "We are near the end of the process and we hope to conclude that as soon as possible," FAI director of football Marc Canham told reporters after Thursday's UEFA Nations League draw in Paris.

That draw saw the Boys in Green paired with England in League B of the competition. The new head coach will also prepare his squad for games against Finland and Gus Poyet's Greek outfit during the autumn international windows.

Before the first competitive fixtures of 2024, Ireland welcome Belgium and Switzerland to the Aviva Stadium next month before they host Hungary in June. Their second fixture of the summer window will be an away friendly against Portugal in Aveiro.

It won't be an easy start for the incoming boss on the sideline, but it certainly should be a challenge to prove a point that this young Irish squad can hold their own at international level.
