A Mayo rugby star has been backed to captain the British and Irish Lions this summer.
Alun Wyn Jones, himself the most capped player in Welsh rugby, and former Lions captain in 2021, has publicly supported the choice of an Irish player to lead the team.
On the High Performance Podcast, Jones was asked for his choice to captain the Lions this summer:
"It's hard to go away from the form book. I'll go with Caelan Doris," the former Ospreys and Wales lock said.
"The way Ireland have gone, you look at that back row and the options they have. And the way Doris has been playing leading the team. I should imagine it's a relatively easy team to lead at the moment. But the way he's been playing amongst these back row options, is impressive, you can't go too far from the form book."
