RIP: Mayo native sparks fond memories following death aged 102

MARY Ferguson, Ballyreilly, Kilrane, Wexford, who died recently, was formerly McHugh from Bloomfield, Hollymount, Mayo, and was a sister of Peter McHugh, Bloomfield.

Mary, who was in her 102nd year, was a lady of noble standing who commanded great regard and respect among her neighbours in Wexford.

Bernadette O’Shea noted: “What a great intellect she had, and a wonderful sense of mischief. Mary was a very special woman.”

Anne Sinnott, a close friend, said: “Mary, what a truly wonderful, kind, funny person you were to have known.

"The chats we had and cups of tea over all the years. I shall miss you dearly and all you stood for.” 

Mary always retains a soft spot for her home area around Hollymount and loved to hear the news from the region over the years.

The local community extends condolences to the Ferguson and McHugh families on the passing of Mary.

Reposing was in Mulligan’s Funeral Home, The Faythe, Wexford, and the Mass was celebrated in St Ruane’s Church, Kilrane, with interment afterwards in the local cemetery.

Mary, who was beloved predeceased by her husband William, will be sadly missed by her family, Brendan, Eugene, Bernadette, Raymond, Kevin and Angela, her brother Peter and her sisters Theresa and Ethna, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, brothers-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
