Sr Rose Connor, St Mary’s Nursing Home, Shantalla, Galway, formerly of St Vincent’s Convent of Mercy (Galway) and Roundfort, Mayo, RIP

THE death took place in recent days of Sr Rose Connor, St Mary’s Nursing Home, Shantalla, Galway, and formerly of St Vincent’s Convent of Mercy (Galway) and Roundfort, Mayo.

Sr Rose, who was in her 90th year, spent most of her life in Galway, especially at Holy Trinity School, Mervue, where she endeared herself to so many pupils down through the years.

Michelle Creane Pyne was among those paying tributes to the Roundfort native. “Sr Rose was one of the most caring and loving teachers who was still spoken about 50+years on in Mervue.

"She had the patience of a saint as the classes were quite big. She just had a calming way about her and handled everything in her stride.

“We were lucky to be able to say lovely words about Rose. Thank you for being a wonderful teacher and person. I met you several times in the years after and always had lovely brief chats.”

Reposing was in St Vincent’s Convent, Newtownsmith, Galway, with private removal to her niece Bridie’s home in Roundfort.

Following Requiem Mass in Roundfort Church, interment took place in the local cemetery.

Sr Rose will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her sisters Evelyn Fallon (USA), Bridie Gavin (USA), Sarah Curley (Roundfort), the Sisters of Mercy Western Province, brother-in-law Martin, nephews, nieces, relatives and extended family and friends.
