RIP: Passing of Mayo-raised nun sparks tributes

Sr Anne Hynes, Rosary Lane, Taylor's Hill, Salthill, Galway, formerly of Lissatava, Hollymount, Mayo, RIP

THE death took place in recent days of Sr Anne Hynes, Rosary Lane, Taylor's Hill, Salthill, Galway, and formerly of Lissatava, Hollymount, Mayo.

Sr Anne was especially associated with the Convent of Mercy in Tuam and also Stella Maria, Taylors Hill, Galway. She died peacefully in the loving care of the staff of St Mary’s Residential Care Centre, Galway.

Sr Anne was highly regarded in Tuam where she showed kindness and empathy to so many in the school.

Well known hairdresser, Della Dolan, said Sr Anne was a lovely lady and that she and friends had fond memories of her from their school days in Tuam.

Mary Potter, RSM, Tuam, commented: “Anne was always a calm, caring, kind and humble person. We lived together in the 1980’s and taught school in El Cajon, California.

"Her mother, Delia, used to visit us for a month every other summer. May they both rest in peace.”

Reposing was at Stella Maria on St Brigid’s Day and Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated in the Cathedral of the Assumption, Tuam, followed interment in the Convent Cemetery, Tuam.

Sr Anne, who was predeceased by her parents Owen and Delia (Morris), her brother John, and her sisters Mary and Rita, will be sadly missed mourned and fondly remembered by her nieces, her grandniece and grandnephew, her sister-in-law Anne, her extended family and the Sisters of Mercy Western Branch, in particular the community in Stella Maria.
