Dropped: Golfweek’s Best 2026 list of the Top 50 Modern Golf Courses in Great Britain & Ireland

Mayo golf course named among Top 10 list in Ireland and Britain

A Mayo golf course has been named among the best in Britain and Ireland by the Golfweek magazine.

The list compiled by the Golfweek course-ratings panel consists of the 50 best modern golf courses, built in 1960 or later.

The members of this panel continually evaluate golf courses and rate them based on our 10 criteria, Golfweek explain on their website.

They also file a single, overall rating on each course. Those overall ratings on each course are averaged to produce a final rating for each course. Then each course is ranked against other courses in Great Britain and Ireland to produce the final rankings.

Carne Golf Links in Belmullet actually feature twice on that top 50 list.

The Wild Atlantic Dunes Links is ranked tenth. It received an average rating of 7.36 and retained its 2025 ranking which was also tenth. The course opened in 2017.

Also, the Carne Hackett Links feature high up on the list, ranking in 18th place. The course was opened in 1992 and also claimed the same ranking as last year.
