Mayo bronze medal winner to receive memorable homecoming
There were scenes of pure joy: Oisin Joyce celebrating his bronze medal in the stadium! The young Mayo man made history last week when securing Ireland's first ever throws-medal at an U-20 World Championships.
The Lake District Athletic Club is thrilled to invite people to a special celebration in honour of Oisin Joyce, returning from Peru's capital Lima.
Oisin, at only 19 years, hailing from Glebe St in Ballinrobe, delivered the performance of his life, extending his own Irish U20 record to an incredible 73.89m—a 17cm improvement on his previous best. This outstanding throw, achieved in the first round under cool and damp conditions, secured Oisín's place on the podium.
Oisin’s bronze medal is a monumental achievement, marking only the fifth time Ireland has medal at these championships.
The Lake District AC is inviting everyone to join as they welcome Oisin home and celebrate this remarkable achievement: The homecoming will take place tomorrow (Wednesday), September 4, at 7.30pm on the Lake District AC Athletics track, the Green, Ballinrobe, Co Mayo.
