Huge success for Mayo sensation Oisin Joyce (19) at the U-20 World Championship. The Ballinrobe man is the first ever Irish person winning a medal at this competition.
Joyce will take home the bronze medal after a throw for the ages: A new National U-20 record with 73.89m. Joyce improved the record that he set himself at a tournament in June this year.
He starts for Lake District Athletic Club in Ballinrobe and has been making progress lately. After finishing school he decided to train for a year, work in a coffee place and concentrate on his sports career. His efforts are paying off with this landmark success at the U-20 World Championship.
He is only the fifth Irish person who won a medal at a U-20 World Championship.
