Oisín Joyce from Ballinrobe made history in Germany over the weekend by setting a new national javelin record

Javelin talent Oisín Joyce from Ballinrobe delivered a stunning performance at the Bauhaus Jürgen Gala in Germany over the weekend, clinching victory in the U20 javelin competition with a new personal best and national record. The Lake District AC thrower launched the javelin to an impressive distance of 73.72 metres, surpassing his previous best and etching his name in the record books.

Competing against a strong field of international athletes, Joyce's record-breaking throw not only secured him the gold medal but also marked a significant milestone in his athletic career. Additionally, his outstanding performance achieved the U20 world standard, qualifying him to compete in the World Athletics U20 Championships in Peru in August.

“I’m absolutely delighted with my performance this weekend. It was three metres better than my previous personal best so I am very happy with that,” he explained afterwards.
