A tragic incident has occurred in Majorca as early this morning an 11-year-old Irish girl died after falling from the seventh floor of a hotel in Majorca.
The family was visiting the popular holiday resort Puerto de Alcudia in the northeast of the Spanish island.
Reports indicate that the girl’s family was asleep when she ventured onto the balcony and fell under unclear circumstances. The local police are currently investigating the details surrounding the incident.
It is said that emergency services, including paramedics, responded promptly and attempted to resuscitate the child, but she was declared dead at the scene. An autopsy is said to be scheduled for later today to determine the exact cause of death.
The family was reportedly due to return to Ireland later today. It is not yet confirmed where exactly in Ireland the young girl was from.
A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs has said: "The Department is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance."
