Gardaí are investigating following reports of a discharge of a firearm at a residential premises in Longford town

A man in his 70's is been treated in hospital following an alleged shooting incident in Longford town yesterday evening (July 17). 

The incident occurred at approximately 7.50pm in the Springlawn area. 

Gardaí have confirmed that they are investigating following reports of a discharge of a firearm at a residential premises in Longford town. 

The injured man was rushed to Mullingar Hospital where he is being treated for injuries which gardaí believe to be serious but non-life threatening.

The scene is currently cordoned off for technical examination.

A Garda spokesperson said, "Enquiries are ongoing and no further information is available at this time."
