Cork community rallies to support Ian Baitson's family

The Cork community has rallied to support the family of Ian Baitson, who was tragically killed in a sword attack in Cobh.
The father of two, aged 33, died after being critically injured in a sword attack in Cobh, Co Cork, on March 19. A man in his 30s was charged with his murder. 
With "heavy hearts", friends of Ian created a fundraiser to support his family through this difficult time.
 
"It is with heavy hearts, we create this page to honour the memory of Ian Baitson, whose sudden passing on Tuesday, March 19th, 2024, has left us utterly devastated. His loss has deeply affected his family, wide circle friends, and the surrounding community.
"Ian was a charming, young man and proud father to two beautiful children, Zoe and Myles. His untimely departure has left a void that can never be filled. In this time of mourning, Ian's family and close friends have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of help, support, generosity, and kindness from our community", said Shane Connolly.
"Those of us lucky enough to have known Ian, fondly remember his infectious laughter, enthusiastic greetings and smile that could illuminate even the darkest of rooms. He was not only a great family man, but a great friend and colleague."
To support Ian's family, his friends set up a GoFundMe page - a fundraiser which will help with the funeral cost, as well as to support Ian's children, Zoey and Myles in the coming months.
Part of the proceeds will be donated to the ICU at Cork University Hospital in "honour of the exceptional care and support they provided to Ian during his time there".
"The ICU at CUH holds a special place in our hearts for the remarkable work they continue to do, and the extraordinary care they extend to patients and their families. By making a donation in Ian's honour, we express our deepest gratitude to the dedicated healthcare professionals who tirelessly serve our community through the most difficult of times," Shane said.
