Mayo Sports Partnership have secured national glory as they were presented with the best local sports partnership of the year award as they delivered measurable health outcomes, fostered community engagement and strengthened links between sport and healthcare through a shift towards community based activity.

With 29 different local sports partnerships across Ireland, Mayo claimed glory at the Irish Sport Industry Awards that was held at the College Green Hotel in Dublin.

Speaking to The Mayo News, Mayo Sports Partnership head, Charlie Lambert explained:  "I am delighted for everyone involved in the project, Mayo Sports Partnership Staff especially our Physical Activity for Health Officer Edel O Malley, the committee, our partners including  HSE Health and Wellbeing and HSE Primary Care Physiotherapy Dept, everyone in Mayo County Council in the community section and of course all the participants. I'd like to thank all of them for their work in this project and it wouldn't be possible without the collaboration between all involved and that’s one thing we are very good at here in Mayo, working in partnership. So we were delighted to accept the award on behalf of everybody". “ A big thank you to Cork Sports Partnership and Cork Physiotherapists for their help and assistance in developing the initiative” Lambert added.
