Straide & Foxford United goalkeeper Amber Hardy has become the latest Mayo players to sign for Sligo Rovers’ senior women’s team.

The St Joseph’s Foxford student lined out for the Rovers senior side last October at the age of 16 and has also played for Mayo in the Gaynor Cup.

She also recently featured for her school in a Connacht final where they lost out to Manorhamilton on penalties.

Hardy will feature alongside fellow new signing Kelsey Munroe from Kilmaine, as well as former Mayo senior Gaelic footballers Fiona Doherty and Aoife Brennan, at the Showgrounds for the 2024 season.

Rovers, who finished finished ninth in last year’s Women’s League of Ireland Women’s Premier Division, will be managed by former Athlone Town manager, Tommy Hewitt.

“I’m delighted to sign with the senior team for the 2024 season,” Amber said.

“I really enjoyed the end of last season after getting called into training and even making my debut. It’s a big opportunity for me, and I’m excited to get going with the girls and Tommy.”

Hewitt added: “It’s great that Amber has decided to sign with us this season. She really showed at the end of last season she can perform at senior level. I’m looking forward to seeing her grow this season.”
