MANULLA were left to rue some early misses as they exited the FAI Junior Cup at home to Malahide United this afternoon.

A goal in either half was enough to see the north Dublin side into the next round at the expense of a Manulla team that should have gone ahead in the first half.

Despite being the better team for much of the first half, the hosts were dominated by their youthful guests after the break as they struggled to defend and create chances.

Both Lorcan Conroy and Shea Benson missed several good chances in the opening 15 minutes as Malahide looked porous at the back.

However, the seasiders found their rhythm half-way through the first half and began exposing frailties in Manulla’s defence.

The visitors broke the deadlock three minutes from half-time when Ciaran Cross bundled a corner into the net.

Manulla couldn’t overturn the setback as Malahide created a number of good chances before Chuckawadara Igbosunu finished after getting on the end of a cross that should have been cleared.

Malahide were the better team from here onwards, with Manulla generating the odd chance but failing to draw blood on a day where they had the chances to win the game.

A full report, plus reaction from Manulla captain Ruairi Henry, will be carried in Tuesday’s print edition of The Mayo News.
