BALLYGLASS lifted the Calor Premier Cup at sunny Solar 21 Park on Sunday with first-half goals from Josh Mahon and Conor Heneghan.
The winners could even afford the luxury of a missed Ryan Connolly penalty; Iorras ‘keeper Kian Gallagher, guessing the right way.
The story would be different, of course, if Iorras were able to convert their opening quarter superiority into goals. But an outstanding defensive display from PJ Gibbons, Oisin Moran, team captain Aaron Moran, and man-of-the-match Josh Mahon meant that the fairytale ended for the reformed north Mayo side.
With nineteen goals to his credit this season, Ryan Ruddy was a huge threat, but it was fellow striker, James Lavelle, who looked most likely to score as Iorras tore into Ballyglass from the start.
But against the run of possession, Mahon was at the far post for Ryan Connolly’s cross to put Ballyglass in front on 32 minutes.
And Conor Heneghan was on hand nine minutes later to win it, after some loose defending.
Iorras made two substitutions for the second half, but were unable to break down the Ballyglass defence.
