Belmullet 1-12
Balla 0-9
A stellar performance from Ryan O'Donoghue powered Belmullet to victory in Saturday evening's Division 2 league semi-final in Balla. The horrible weather conditions and testing surface didn't deter the inter-county star who notched 1-7 as the Erris men ran out six point winners over the home side.
Balla began well with full-forward Conor Walsh to the fore but Belmullet found their rhythm in the second quarter and were four clear at the break, 0-8 to 0-4.
A superb goal from O'Donoghue and a well-taken point from the impressive Gerry Barrett had eight between the teams at the end of the third quarter before Balla enjoyed their best period.
Four points in succession had the home supporters in good voice but O'Donoghue banished any hopes of a close finish with two more points in the closing minutes.
A full match-report and reaction from the victorious Belmullet camp will be carried in Tuesday's Mayo News.
