The Castlebar native is taking on a unique challenge while raising funds for the Community First Responders as well as the Order of Malta.

On June 21, Father’s Day, Paul Kilcourse from Castlebar, will take on a unique challenge to raise funds for the incredible volunteers of the Community First Responders and Order of Malta, who cared for his Dad and supported his family with such kindness, compassion, and dignity on the day of his Dad’s passing.

It is Paul’s way of giving something back to help those organisations to continue the life-saving and community work they do every day. Paul said: “My Dad, Michael Kilcourse, passed away on Father’s Day, June 15 last year doing what he loved, cycling. My dad's other passion in his life was golf, and he was a former Captain of Castlebar Golf Club.”

Paul added: “I plan to drive a ball off the first tee at each of the 10 golf clubs within Mayo, cycling between each club. Starting at Carne Golf Club as the sunrises, I will drive a ball off the first tee, from there I cycle to the airstrip and catch a ride in a plane to Achill Golf Club, where I will again drive a ball from the first tee.

“Then hop back on my bike, and cycle to the next eight golf courses during the day - Mulranny, Westport, Ballinrobe, Claremorris, Ballyhaunis, Swinford, Ballina and finishing at Castlebar Golf Club, driving the final ball of the day from their first tee.

“By the end of the day, I will have cycled 256 kms in memory of my dad while raising funds for two incredible organisations that provide vital support within our community.”
