Cyclists from across Mayo are gearing up for one of the region’s most anticipated charity events as the Mayo Pink Ribbon Charity Cycle returns next month.
Now in its 17th year, the popular fundraiser will take place on Saturday, May 2nd, with participants setting off and finishing at the Atlantic Technological University in Castlebar.
Organised by the Mayo Pink Ribbon Committee, the event has grown into a major fixture in the West of Ireland’s sporting and charity calendar, attracting cyclists of all ages and abilities.
Participants can choose from three routes — 52km, 70km, and 110km — making the event accessible to both casual riders and seasoned cyclists, while showcasing some of Mayo’s most scenic landscapes.
Since its launch, more than 2,000 cyclists have taken part, raising over €1.7 million in support of the National Breast Cancer Research Institute, based at the Lambe Institute at University of Galway. Funds raised contribute directly to research aimed at improving outcomes for those diagnosed with breast cancer.

While registration for the cycle is free, participants are encouraged to raise or donate a minimum of €100, or €60 for juniors, underlining the event’s strong community fundraising mindset.
The Mayo Pink Ribbon Charity Cycle is widely recognised for its vibrant and supportive atmosphere, with towns and villages along the routes turning out in force — many dressed in pink — to cheer on participants.
Local businesses, schools and volunteers play a central role in ensuring the success of the day, helping to create a welcoming and uplifting experience for all involved.
Cyclists who pre-register will receive a complimentary event T-shirt, subject to availability, as well as a commemorative medal upon completion. Full route support, refreshments and a hot meal after the cycle will also be provided.
Organisers are encouraging anyone interested in taking part, volunteering or supporting the event to get involved and help continue its strong tradition of community spirit and fundraising.
With another strong turnout expected, the event promises once again to bring Mayo together in support of a vital cause — one pedal at a time.
