Kiltimagh Tidy Towns volunteers praised for improving local routes with new bilingual signs

ew signage project enhances walkways in Kiltimagh

Volunteers with Kiltimagh Tidy Towns have installed new signage along walking routes in Kiltimagh.

A new community-led signage project is helping to highlight the heritage and charm of walking routes in Kiltimagh, Co Mayo thanks to the efforts of local volunteers.

Kiltimagh Tidy Towns has overseen the installation of a series of new signs across laneways, boreens and circular walking routes throughout the town.

The project, carried out over recent weeks by volunteers Chris Glynn, Ryan Glynn, Henry Kelly and Sean Kelly, aims to make these well-known local routes more accessible and visible to visitors.

While many of the laneway and walking route names are familiar to residents, there had previously been no signage in place to guide those unfamiliar with the area.

The initiative involved securing permissions, as well as designing, assembling and installing the signs — a process described as a significant undertaking.

Local organisers said the work has been a “labour of love” for those involved, reflecting a strong sense of community pride.

Further enhancements are planned, with a number of signs still to be erected. Weather permitting, volunteers also intend to paint timber mounts and surrounding signage to further improve the overall appearance.

The project is expected to enhance the visitor experience while celebrating local identity and encouraging greater use of the town’s walking routes.

Community members have expressed appreciation for the volunteers’ dedication, noting the ongoing contribution of Tidy Towns groups in maintaining and improving the area.
