Nephin Energy has recently announced a €75,000 donation to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul West Region, which includes Mayo.
For the fifth consecutive year, Nephin Energy has provided funding to support households experiencing energy poverty across Mayo, Galway, and Roscommon.
The funding will be ringfenced to assist individuals and families struggling with energy costs, to help vulnerable households heat and power their homes throughout the year.
Speaking on the announcement of the recent donation, Nephin Energy CEO Tom O’Brien said; “This marks our fifth year supporting the SVP West Region through the Nephin Energy Support Fund, with our total contributions now approaching €500,000.
“We are acutely aware that many families across Ireland continue to face real pressure from high energy costs. As a company operating in the West of Ireland across both natural gas and renewable energy, we recognise our responsibility to support the communities closest to us,” he said.

He added that the funding allows SVP volunteers to respond directly to households struggling with energy bills and provide practical support where it is needed.
The SVP West Region operates across Mayo, Galway, and Roscommon through a network of more than 50 local conferences supported by over 450 volunteers.
The organisation provides person-to-person assistance to individuals and families experiencing financial hardship, including support with essential household costs.
Seamus McManus, President of SVP West Region, said the organisation continues to see strong demand for assistance related to energy costs.
“We continue to see significant demand for support from individuals and families experiencing financial hardship, particularly in relation to energy costs,” he said. “For many households, keeping the lights on and the home warm remains a constant concern.”
Mr. McManus said the funding from Nephin Energy would help volunteers across the region to continue providing direct assistance to households struggling to meet essential expenses.
SVP volunteers typically provide support through home visits, allowing them to engage directly with individuals and families and offer assistance tailored to their specific circumstances.
The organisation said the donation will play an important role in helping vulnerable households across the West Region manage energy costs throughout 2026.
