More than 900 children across County Mayo will join in the fun and festivities of National Pyjama Day 2026 today, donning their favourite pyjamas in 29 Early Years and School Age Care settings across the county.

Organised by Early Childhood Ireland, the annual event encourages children to wear pyjamas to crèches, preschools, and afterschools for a day filled with games and activities, all while raising much-needed funds for charity.

“National Pyjama Day captures the spirit of children helping children in the most joyful way,” said Teresa Heeney, CEO of Early Childhood Ireland. “It’s so inspiring to see over 900 children and their educators join the celebrations in Early Years and School Age Care settings in Mayo today.”

This year’s celebrations support LauraLynn, Ireland’s Children’s Hospice, and Early Childhood Ireland’s Eco-Emotions project, which promotes eco-learning for educators and families.

Funds raised will help LauraLynn provide personalised care for children with palliative and complex needs and support their families across Ireland.

“It is fantastic to see so many children and Early Years settings joining National Pyjama Day today,” said Kerry McLaverty, CEO of LauraLynn. “This support helps us to provide hospice and palliative care to children with life-limiting conditions and their families.”

Denise Charlton, Chief Executive of Community Foundation Ireland, added: “National Pyjama Day truly shows the power of communities coming together to champion children. We congratulate LauraLynn and wish them every success as they continue to provide vital support for families in need.”

Children across Mayo will enjoy a range of activities today, all while learning about the importance of caring for others and the environment.
