Achill Island RLNI receives €2,000 from fundraiser

Organisers of the Mulranny darts fundraiser present a cheque for €2,040.80 to members of Achill Island RNLI at McLoughlin's Bar

The volunteer crew of Achill Island RNLI have received a generous boost following a successful darts competition held in Mulranny, Mayo in their honour.

A cheque for €2,040.80 was presented to members of the lifeboat crew at a gathering in McLoughlin’s Bar this week, following the recent fundraiser which drew strong support from local darts teams and the wider community.

The competition was held in fond memory of the late Frank McLoughlin, who passed away in July 2024. The event was spearheaded by his wife Jane, his daughter Mairead, bar manager Ann, and Marty Hanley, who worked together to organise the fundraiser.

Achill Island RNLI expressed sincere gratitude to the organisers and all those who took part, describing the proceeds as a significant contribution towards supporting the station’s lifesaving work.

Accepting the cheque on behalf of the crew, Coxswain Dave Curtis thanked everyone who supported the event. He highlighted the ongoing training undertaken by volunteer crew members and noted that the station is always seeking new recruits to join the team.

As a registered charity, the RNLI relies heavily on community fundraising initiatives to ensure its volunteer crews have access to the highest standards of training and equipment. Funds raised locally help support the organisation’s mission of saving lives at sea along the Mayo coastline and beyond.
