Minister Alan Dillon announces Circular Economy Innovative Grants

Two Mayo-based projects are set to benefit from almost €100,000 in government funding after Minister of State with responsibility for the Circular Economy, Alan Dillon TD, announced the successful recipients of the €650,000 Circular Economy Innovation Grant Scheme during a visit to Ballina.

The announcement was made at the offices of Accelerating Change Together (ACT), one of 14 projects nationwide to receive funding under the fourth round of the scheme. Ballina ACT and Inishturk Island Community Club CLG will each receive €48,000, highlighting Mayo’s growing role in leading practical climate action and circular economy innovation.

Speaking in Ballina, Minister Dillon said he was “delighted to announce the 14 recipients” and praised the Mayo projects for showcasing best practice in reducing waste, cutting emissions and strengthening communities.

ACT’s funded project, ReVerify, will pilot a verified compliance route for the reuse of construction materials, directly tackling Ireland’s largest waste stream. The initiative aims to make construction reuse more practical and scalable, supporting both climate targets and local employment.

Meanwhile, Inishturk Island Community Club CLG will focus on cutting waste and carbon emissions on the island by generating renewable fuel through a new composter and biogas system, reinforcing sustainability in a remote island setting.

Minister Dillon described the organisation’s work as one that “showcase[s] best practice in the circular economy - reducing emissions, strengthening communities and inspiring others across Ireland.”

The Circular Economy Innovation Grant Scheme supports innovative and scalable solutions that help Ireland move towards an economy where resources are reused, waste is minimised and sustainability is embedded in everyday production and consumption. Since 2024, the scheme has been administered in partnership with Community Foundation Ireland.

In total, 14 projects across the country received funding under this round, including organisations in Cavan, Kildare, Galway, Cork, Dublin, Offaly and Limerick, with Mayo securing two of the awards.
