Investigations are ongoing.
Gardaí have arrested a man in connection with their investigation into a serious assault that took place on Barrack Street, Ballaghaderreen on January 1 2026.
The man, aged in his 40s, is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a station in the Garda North Western Region.
The incident occurred on Barrack Street at around 1am. A male (aged in his 30s) was brought to Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, where he remains in a critical condition.
A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed and an incident room has been established in Castlerea Garda Station.
Investigations are ongoing.
