Mayo Gardaí arrest novice driver for dangerous driving

An Garda Síochána Mayo detected a vehicle speeding at an incredible 161 km/h in a 10 km/h zone.

The novice driver was instantly arrested for dangerous driving. The incident happened on New Years Eve on a busy N5 in Charlestown.

The Mayo Roads Policing Unit were conducting speed checks. Temperatures were down to two degrees.

the driver now faces: A 2-year driving disqualification, a fine of up to €5,000 or up to 6 months in prison.

Gardaí remind drivers that speeding at this level puts everyone on the road at risk.

Motorists are asked to take extra care on the roads and give more time for the journey ahead.
