Today's announcement is seen as the biggest Government investment to date in water services for the county.
Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht Dara Calleary along with Minister of State Alan Dillon have welcomed confirmation that 20 Group Water Schemes in County Mayo are to be funded with a €20.8million investment under the Rural Water Programme.
A total of 20 Group Water Schemes across Mayo which will support a wide range of projects and reflects the biggest Government investment to date in water services for the county.
The funding will support projects including source protection measures, water treatment upgrades, leakage reduction and prevention, new community water connections as well as the formal taking-in-charge of four Group Water Schemes and Group Sewerage Schemes in areas of Mayo.

Key projects that will be funded in Mayo include the following:
€2.1 million for a new Community Water Connection in Carrowteigue, serving the communities of Porturlin, Portacloy, Shrataggle, and Carrowteige, where 500 households have been living without a piped water supply.
€2.89 million for Callow Lake GWS under water conservation and leakage reduction.
€1.36 million for Lough Cumnel GWS and €1.2 million for Lough Carra GWS to improve water efficiency and reduce losses.
€600,000 for Glencorrib GWS to upgrade water treatment systems.
€140,000 for raw water monitoring and source protection across 13 group water schemes including Ballycroy, Belderrig, Glenhest, and Lough Mask-Creevagh.
Over €7.5 million allocated to support the taking-in-charge of dozens of group water and sewerage schemes across the county, ensuring long-term sustainability and public oversight.

Minister Calleary explained “The funding provided and the completion of these projects will enable Group Water Schemes to continue improving the quality, quantity, and reliability of water services in rural areas and I want to compliment all involved, including Mayo County Council, local area representatives and local committees who have worked tirelessly and selflessly on behalf of each of the successful schemes.”
Minister of State Alan Dillon stated This is one of the most significant investments in rural water infrastructure ever seen in Mayo. It will directly benefit thousands of households, improve water quality, reduce leakage, and ensure that rural communities have access to safe, reliable, and sustainable water services,” concluded Minister Dillon.
