Sligo Rovers midfielder and Mayo native Jessica Casey was among 73 Atlantic Technlological University students who were have been awarded entrance scholarships.

Casey, who was a regular for Tommy Hewitt before his departure at the tail end of last season, was rewarded for scoring over 550 points in the Leaving Certificate during her time studying in St Attracta’s College in Tubbercurry.

The Bit O’Red player received an award at the Sligo event and is currently studying for a BA in Business and Irish.

Casey, hailing from Charlestown, received €500 in scholarship and a trophy to commemorate their academic success.  She has also previously received an ATU Sports Scholarship.

Speaking at the event, held at ATU’s campus in Sligo, Doctor Orla Flynn, the President of ATU, praised those who achieved such lofty academic achievements.

“I want to extend my congratulations to all the students on their incredible achievement in the Leaving Certificate examination,” she said.  “This award acknowledges the hard work and dedication of those students.”

Casey and her Sligo Rovers teammates face off against Bohemians in the curtain raiser for the SSE Airtricity Women’s National League on March 8 at the Showgrounds.
