Housing commencements have risen in Mayo
THE number of commencement notices for new houses in Mayo rose by 81 percent in one year, according to new statistics from the Department of Housing.
In 2024 there have been commencement notices for 778 houses in Mayo, compared to 429 in 2023. Construction started on a record 137 new houses for the month of December in Mayo.
Recent figures from MyHome and the Real Estate Alliance showed that house prices have risen steadily despite increased construction activity on new houses.
Mayo TD and Minister of State for Housing, Alan Dillon, welcomed the increase in housing commencement notices.
“Government initiatives such as the development levy waiver and the Úisce Éireann rebate have had a positive impact in getting projects off the ground with the ultimate goal of increasing our housing supply to meet housing needs,” Minister Dillon commented.
