A Mayo musician who recently played a gig to thousands of people on short notice will be honoured at a function at the Ivy Tower Hotel in Castlebar.
Éadaoin Ní Mhaicín from Balla played with The Corrs at a packed gig in Glasgow after Sharon Corr was unable to perform on the night.
Next Thursday, November 28, at 8 pm an ‘Oíche Mhór Cheoil & Amhránaíochta’ will take place in honour of Ms Ní Mhaicín. The show is being organised by Craobh an Phiarsaigh de Chonradh na Gaeilge i gCaisleán an Bharraigh.
A native of Balla, Éadaoin Ní Mhaicín has composed a large repertoire of music and has graced stages in every continent. She has performed with Michael Flatley and Frankie Gavin and has played to Prince Albert of Monaco and world-renowned peacemaker, George Mitchell.
She is proficient on the fiddle, the harp and the piano and has spent a lot of time writing original compositions. Her most recent composition, Resurrect, has just been released with her band Astra Bloc while in October she released New Dawn with LÉDA.
She will be joined on stage at the Oíche Mhór Cheoil & Amhránaíochta next Thursday by Freda Nic Giolla Chatháin, Liam Mac Congáil and Paddy Ó hÉanacháin.
All are welcome to the event and refreshments will be served. There is no entry fee.
