Éadaoin Ní Mhaicín played in front of thousands of people when she joined The Corrs on stage in the OVO Hydro in Glasgow
BALLA native Éadaoin Ní Mhaicín has described playing on stage with The Corrs as ‘an absolute dream’.
The well-known musician joined the renowned Irish band on stage after she was asked to fill in on fiddle for Sharon Corr at the last minute.
With only a few hours’ notice, Ms Ní Mhaicín got a phone call from Sharon Shannon asking her to play with the band at the 14,000-seater OVO Hydro arena.
Though she was familiar with the band’s back catalogue, Ms Ní Mhaicín only began learning the tunes while driving to the concert. Her only rehearsal with the band was during the soundcheck.
The 29-year-old lives in Glasgow and has toured extensively throughout her career as a solo artist and with a number of groups, including LÉDA.
“I think there wouldn’t be a person in Ireland that wouldn’t have listened to the Corrs,” she said on BBC Radio Scotland.
“I definitely recognised a lot of the songs but then again, when it comes to fiddle parts and stuff there’s such specific things the fiddle does. I had never played most them ever before.
“A lot of it was new to me in that way. I just threw myself in and tried to do the best I possibly could.”
In a social media post, Ms Ní Mhaicín said it was ‘an absolute dream’ to perform with the band.

The Corrs have sold more than 40 million albums and are currently nearing the end of a year-long tour.
Éadaoin thanked the band for asking her to play with them describing them as ‘kind and welcoming’.
“It was absolutely unbelievable,” she said. “I just totally lived in the moment and enjoyed it and I think they genuinely have some of the best fans in the world because you could even see the fans there were so kind and so welcoming. That made it so much easier as well, they were just an amazing crowd. I think Glasgow always has an amazing crowd.”
