WOW group members at the presentation
The cheque presentation has been held for a group of Mayo women who took on a four-day-long, 605 kilometre cycle for charity.
Westport Women on Wheels recently held the cheque presentation for monies raised from their Mizen to Malin cycle last month, with the group raising a phenomenal €54,230 in total for Mayo Roscommon Hospice and Mayo Rape Crisis.
Seamus Moran from the Board of Mayo Roscommon Hospice accepted a cheque for €31,115, while Caroline Barry Chairperson, and Loretta Brosnan Centre Director of Mayo Rape Crisis, accepted a cheque for €23,115.
Both charities were extremely grateful for the funds raised, with Ms Brosnan thanking the group particularly for the awareness that the cycle had raised for their charity, which provides vital services for victims of sexual violence in Mayo.
Speaking about the hospice services, Mr Moran outlined that since its inception from an idea in 1994, there are now two dedicated hospice units providing palliative care and all funds raised go to enhancing the foundation services which touch the lives of so many throughout Mayo and Roscommon.
The group wish to thank everyone who donated and the many local businesses who supported them in their endeavour, in particular, Portwest, Castlecourt Hotel, Major Equipment, EFS, ShareRidge, Kennedy Travel, The Helm, Treacy's Pharmacy, ATU Sligo, Kvalito, and a generous anonymous donor.
