Senator Lisa Chambers has spoken out following negative media reports about the Mayo county town of Castlebar.

The Fianna Fáil General Election candidate for Mayo responded to recent negative reports by emphasising the town's many strengths and opportunities.

"Castlebar is a vibrant town that offers a high quality of life to all who live and work here. It's a place that we, as residents, are proud to call home, and it has so much to offer in terms of amenities, services, and infrastructure,” she commented.

Senator Chambers added: “I want to focus on the positive aspects that make Castlebar a standout town, not only in Mayo but across the country.”

Pointing to Castlebar's designation as a university town, Ms Chambers highlighted ATU Mayo's higher education opportunities and academic hub for both Mayo and the wider region.

In addition to its educational offerings, Castlebar is home to Mayo University Hospital who provide essential medical services to the people of Mayo while also being one of the town's major employers, supporting jobs and boosting the local economy.

Furthermore, the Fianna Fáil Senator called attention to the town’s recreational and leisure facilities, such as Lough Lannagh.

The leisure complex at Lough Lannagh provides top-tier amenities for sports, fitness, and family activities, complementing the area's natural beauty.

Ms Chambers also mentioned the TF Royal Theatre, which hosts a diverse range of performances and events, making the town a cultural destination in its own right.

Referring to the Switcher.ie Work-Life Balance Index report published earlier this year, Senator Chambers reiterated that Castlebar is recognised as the best place to live in Ireland for work-life balance.

The study ranked Castlebar first out of 50 towns and cities, based on factors such as local amenities, housing affordability, access to green spaces, and good connectivity.

"Castlebar’s top ranking for work-life balance is a testament to the quality of life it offers. With affordable housing, low crime rates, excellent schools, and plenty of leisure activities, Castlebar is not just a place to live but a place where families can thrive,” continued Senator Chambers.

The same report also named Castlebar as the third-best place in Ireland for families due to its welcoming environment, vibrant retail scene, and easy access to services and green spaces.

Senator Chambers concluded: "Despite recent negative portrayals in the media, Castlebar is a town with immense potential and a bright future. I encourage everyone to see Castlebar for what it is—an exceptional place to live, work, and enjoy life."
