Mayo shines in work-life balance survey by Switcher

Castlebar and Ballina named amongst the best towns work-life balance ahead of the Work-Life Balance Act 2023 Code of Practice being introduced.

The legislation was brought in by the Government last year with an aim to give employees new rights, such as the right to request remote work carer's leave and other flexible arrangements. Energy, telecoms, and personal finances switching service ‘Switcher’ conducted a survey ahead of the implementation of the act, and it has brought about interesting revelations.

Mayo shone in the survey, with Castlebar being named as the best town for work life balance, and Ballina trailing closely behind in second. Castlebar also came out on top in a similar 2020 study by Switcher.

Our research compared essentials such as broadband speeds, mobile coverage, and access to local amenities like primary schools, health services, and major supermarkets. Factors important for well-being, like green spaces, leisure facilities, cafes, house prices, commuting, and crime rate were also considered.

With all this information, Switcher created a Work-Life Balance Index to rank the best and worst places to juggle work, family, and pleasure.
