Man arrested after barricading himself inside a house in Ballina

Man (30s) arrested and detained under mental health legislation

Gardaí have arrested a man in his 30s who barricaded himself inside his family residence in Ballina last night after Gardaí attended in response to an incident of criminal damage. 

Local Garda negotiators from the National Negotiators Unit, along with several other Garda units, attended the scene and a cordon was put in place.

After negotiations, the incident was peacefully resolved shortly before 11.30 pm.

The male involved was arrested under mental health legislation. Investigations are ongoing.
