Culture Night will take place on September 20 with an array of events across Mayo
A staple in the arts calendar, Culture Night returns to Mayo, and nationwide, on Friday, September 20.
‘One Night For All’, Culture Night promises a feast of free cultural events across Mayo from 4pm until late.
The official Culture Night programme for 2024 is not yet available, however, you can expect everything from music and basket weaving to cabaret and film. There’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Brought to you by the Arts Council, in partnership with local authorities and cultural organisations throughout the island of Ireland, the initiative began as a relatively modest local event in 2006 with 40 venues opening free and late in the evening in Dublin’s Temple Bar. In 2007 the event expanded citywide, and by 2008 Cork, Galway, Limerick and Waterford became part of the Culture Night initiative.
Mayo, as well as Tralee, Roscommon, Wexford, Sligo and Belfast, joined the party in 2009.
Three years later in 2012, Culture Night became an international event with Irish Culture Nights held in London, Leeds, Newcastle and Liverpool.
