MAYO’S two garda superintendent posts have been filled.
Supt Peter Conlon has been appointed to Ballina, where he replaces Supt Alan Brady, who left his post after less than a year.
Supt Deirdre Gill has been appointed to Claremorris in place of Supt Gabriel Moran, who retired from An Garda Síochána earlier this year.
The appointment of Supt Gill to Ballina has been welcomed by Cllr Michael Loftus, who had expressed concern about the absence of a superintendent in the area following the departure of Supt Brady.
Cllr Loftus has called for six superintendents and a chief superintendent to be stationed in the Mayo area - as had been the case before the introduction of the new garda policing model.
