Funeral arrangements announced for woman who died after being struck by truck in Westport

The arrangements have been announced for the funeral of a Westport woman who died after being struck by a truck in a supermarket car park on Thursday.

Maureen Hopkins (née Darcy) of Rossmoney, Carrowholly, Westport, and late of Bagnalstown, Carlow, was in her seventies.

Maureen will be sadly missed by her loving husband Chris, daughters Eimear, Niamh, Sinéad, Fiona and son Fergal, sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, sister Ann Eustace (Myshall, Carlow), brother George Darcy (Bagnalstown), sister-in-law, brother-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Maureen will be reposing at McGing's Funeral Home, Westport (F28 RX58) tomorrow, Saturday, June 8 from 5pm until 7pm. Requiem Mass is on Sunday, June 9, at 11.30am in St Brendan’s Church, Kilmeena with the funeral proceeding to Myna Cemetery. Maureen’s funeral Mass can be viewed on www.churchtv.ie/Kilmeena or listened to on radio at 106.3FM (Kilmeena Radio). May Maureen rest in peace.

Gardaí in Westport issued an appealing yesterday afternoon for witnesses to the fatal road traffic incident.

Shortly before 12 noon, Gardaí and Emergency Services responded to the incident in a supermarket car park in Westport where Maureen Hopkins was struck by a lorry, and was pronounced deceased a short time later.

The scene was preserved and examined by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. The local Coroner was notified, and a post-mortem examination took place.

The Gardaí are still appealing for witnesses to come forward. Additionally, those with camera footage, including motorists with dash-cam recordings, who were in the vicinity at the time are urged to provide this footage to investigating Gardaí.
