MAYO County Council have presented Irish dancing legend Michael Flatley with a special Home to Mayo Award to mark the thirty-first anniversary of The Mayo 5000.

The Mayo 5000 was a cultural celebration which took place in Mayo throughout 1993 celebrating 5,000 years of rural settlement in the county.

Among those who took part in the year-long celebrations was Mr Flatley, who later starred in Riverdance in 1994.

Home to Mayo celebrations are well underway county wide, with the finale concert ‘A Transatlantic Journey Home’, to take place at the Royal Theatre, Castlebar, at the end of the month.
